Description
This course introduces the principles of packaging design, emphasizing the role of packaging in product identification, presentation, and production. It focuses on how package designers visually communicate using 3-dimensional forms. Students will learn to apply principles of packaging design, composition, structure, and hierarchy. They will explore the relationship between product, environment, communication, and marketing objectives, apply design concepts and color principles, integrate typography with images and symbols, and develop custom food and mass market products and packages for various materials and clients. Additionally, students will develop technical skills in constructing 3D mock-ups and preparing concepts for the print manufacturing process. Research topics include marketing objectives, structural integrity, display aesthetics, and environmental considerations. Prerequisite: DART 201
