Description

A course designed to prepare students in foundational professional nursing competencies of clinical judgment, communication, person-centered care, evidence-based practice, teamwork and collaboration, quality improvement, and informatics necessary to provide quality care to the low-risk maternal-child population. Students will gain knowledge of conditions affecting the maternal-child population. Students will focus on the nursing process and the roles and responsibilities of the professional nurse within the interprofessional team caring for individuals, families, and groups in the low-risk maternal-child population. Clinical experiences occur in acute, outpatient, communitybased, and simulated settings. Students completing this course will have foundational knowledge necessary for success in NRS 413 Maternal-Child Nursing II. Pre-requisites: NRS 303, NRS 305, NRS 312 Co-requisites: None

Theory: 3 hr. per week
Practicum: 45 contact hours per semester
