Description

In this seminar, we will examine the Puritan tradition in America by reading and discussing key primary and secondary works concerning Puritanism, culminating with a more intensive look at the life and thought of Jonathan Edwards. Students will demonstrate an understanding of the main outlines of Reformed life and thought as manifest in American Puritanism and the thought of Jonathan Edwards and be able to analyze and evaluate its influence on American religious life, especially the Reformed tradition. Prerequisite: HT 500 or HT 520 or permission of the instructor.
