Description

This course develops professional nursing competencies of clinical judgment, communication, person-centered care, evidence-based practice, teamwork and collaboration, safety, quality improvement, and informatics necessary to provide quality care to patients with brain health disorders. Students will gain knowledge of brain health disorders with an emphasis on development of therapeutic communication skills and a respectful, empathetic approach to care. The student will focus on roles and responsibilities of the nurse as part of the interprofessional team, including utilization of the nursing process. Clinical experiences focus on individuals and groups experiencing a variety of brain health issues in acute, outpatient, community-based, and simulated settings. Students completing the course will be prepared with essential communication skills applicable in all clinical settings. Prerequisites: NRS 303, NRS 305, NRS 312
Total credits: 5
Theory: 4 hr. per week
Practicum: 45 contact hr.
